Uber's redesigned app puts all its services in one place

Uber has unveiled a major redesign of its app, the first in a while, to reflect the expansion of its services in recent years. The updated Android and iOS versions feature a new home screen that brings together ridesharing and Uber Eats deliveries in one place, making it easier to book trips or order food with fewer steps. In addition, there is a dedicated tab for all available services in your city to eliminate the guesswork. The new design also offers more personalization, with saved locations and recommendations for destinations and ride types based on your habits. An activity hub displays all past and future Uber usage, while iPhone users can now see live ride progress on their lock screen and receive updates around the Dynamic Island when using an iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max. Although the Eats app will not be going away, iPhone-specific upgrades will be added to the app in the coming months. The app redesign makes sense given that Uber now offers services beyond basic car hailing and restaurant orders, including bikes, scooters, package deliveries, and groceries. The new design may help customers discover new features and encourage them to try out services they previously thought were too much of a hassle. While Uber reported higher bookings and profit margins in 2022, its delivery business only grew six percent over the year, so this redesign could help boost delivery orders from customers who may have previously overlooked the Eats feature.
